Ingredients

Adjust Servings:
1 1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour
2/3 cups Sugar
1/4 cup; softened Butter
1 large Egg
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1/4 teaspoon Salt
2 teaspoons Baking Powder
1/2 cup Buttermilk
2 cups + 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Whipped Topping
2 tablespoons Orange Liqueur
1 1/2 quarts fresh; sliced Strawberries
1/4 cup Sugar
10-15 pieces or sauce Caramel
1/4 cup Almonds

    Caramel Almond Strawberry Shortcake

    Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place aluminum foil on a baking sheet and set aside. Wash and rinse strawberries and set them out on a paper towel to dry.

    In a large bowl cream sugar and butter. Add the egg and vanilla, and mix well.

    Add baking powder to flour and mix well. Alternatively, add flour and buttermilk to the mixing bowl. Mix well. The dough should be slightly firm and ready to knead. (If the mixture is sticky, sprinkle flour into dough and mix until the dough is no longer sticky.)

    Place a piece of waxed paper or a pastry mat on a flat surface. Flour it and remove dough from the bowl and place on waxed paper. Flatten the dough out to about 1 inch thick. With a round cookie cutter, cut out the shortcake pieces.

    Place cut-out dough on a baking sheet and place in the oven for 15 minutes.

    Slice the strawberries and place in a medium bowl. Add sugar and orange liqueur. Mix well and set aside. Place whipped cream in another bowl, and add vanilla. (If you are using caramel pieces: Place them in a microwave-safe bowl, and cook for 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until caramel is fully melted.)

    Remove the shortcakes from the oven and let them cool. Slice the shortcake biscuit in half. Add whipped cream and strawberries to the middle. Place the top of the shortcake biscuit on top, and top with whipped cream, strawberries, almonds, and caramel.
