This easy-to-make savory southern fried cabbage recipe is a southern classic! Savory and delicious, you can use thick bacon slices or substitute the bacon altogether with your choice of sausage, smoked turkey, or ham.

Cabbage is a healthy dish that pairs well with almost everything-potatoes, beef, lamb, or poultry.

How to cut pieces for fried cabbage?

Slice the cabbage in half. Cut out the cabbage stem ( in the shape of a triangle) from one half of the cabbage. Then repeat with the other half. Cut the cabbage into pieces. **Cabbage size is a personal preference. Although, I prefer larger slices of cabbage as they tend to keep their firmness better.

    Should I wash the cabbage?

Although, the inner portion of the cabbage is generally sealed very well. It wouldn’t hurt to run some water over the cabbage and rinse off any dirt or debris that may be present. I usually remove and toss away the outermost layers of the cabbage head, then rinse the cabbage after slicing, drain and pat dry.
